72 Hours Handbook – nationwide campaign to increase public preparedness

3. November 2025 | Ratiboř

Article title

The campaign is preventive in nature and aims to prepare citizens to cope with common crisis situations we encounter (power outages, extreme weather, floods, etc.)...

At the beginning of November 2025, printed guides entitled "72 Hours: How to Prepare for and Manage Crisis Situations Together" will be distributed to all households in the Czech Republic.

There is no reason to worry

This is only preparation for known crisis situations.

In crisis situations, the first three days are usually the most difficult. If we prepare well, we will be able to cope with them more calmly. We will be able to help others. And we will enable rescue services to focus on helping those whose lives are in danger.

  • The handbook will be delivered to everyone's mailboxes
  • Infoline for public inquiries: +420 950 380 380 (throughout November, Mon–Fri from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.).
Basic information about the guide

Who prepared the 72 Hours guide?

The guide was prepared by the Fire and Rescue Service of the Czech Republic in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior based on practical experience in the field. Firefighters enjoy the highest level of public trust (97%) among emergency services and deal with crisis situations in the field every day.

Why does the guide focus on 72 hours?

Experience from crises shows that the first three days – i.e., 72 hours – are usually the most challenging. During this time, we may experience water, heat, electricity, or internet outages. This is a practical framework for ensuring basic needs are met until the situation stabilizes.

The 72 Hours Handbook can be downloaded below as a PDF and is also now available on the website 72h.gov.cz.
