On 19 November 2024, a trip to Prostřední Bečva was held to see examples of good practice...
During the trip, the participants were introduced to the Be Ready project, the concept of Urban Heat Islands was explained, the objectives of the project and also the aim of the trip for examples of good practice. In 2015-2017, the municipality of Prostřední Bečva, which has a very similar population, size and landscape character to Ratiboř, implemented several projects:
- Bathing biotope – bathing without the use of chemicals
A bathing biotope was created from an old non-functioning swimming pool for a one-third investment, using natural processes and biological technologies to clean and maintain the quality without the use of chemicals such as chlorine. It is an alternative to conventional swimming pools that respects natural principles and minimises negative environmental impacts. Another benefit of this natural swimming pool is the natural climate around the habitat and the increase in the presence of green areas in the village's intramural area thanks to the trees and plants planted in the regeneration zone where the water is naturally purified. - Trailer – water, greenery and permeable surface
As part of a major project to renovate the village square in front of the library, shop, near the primary and kindergarten, a multifunctional space was designed that includes a grassy area, planting - plants, shrubs, wooden gallery, drinking fountain and water fountain. This whole project is complemented by a permeable raised section of road, which is thus a natural retarder, but also complements the overall well-designed space in terms of heat accumulation and the subsequent creation of a heat island. The whole space has thus become a much visited area by residents and tourists, and in the hot summer months it is also used for easy access to the Rožnovská Bečva watercourse. - Green roofs – gazebo in the village square, school extension, public transport stops
Another implemented measure is green roofs, which are covered with vegetation and are designed to improve the quality of the environment, reduce heat islands and provide aesthetic and ecological benefits. In the village of Prostřední Bečva, a number of buildings have been implemented in this way: a gazebo in the village square, an extension to the primary school and a public transport stop.
