The new system and collection have started to have an impact on waste production and sorting as follows

• relief of the collection points - we stopped seeing overcrowded containers and did not have to go round and clean them so often
• achange in the collection of plastics and paper from the collection points - we used to collect plastics regularly every week (Monday plastics, Tuesday paper), now we collect fortnightly (always on Monday, one week plastics, the other week paper)
• theproduction of municipal waste has fallen by 20 tonnes per quarter - thanks to systematic work on waste sorting, the collection yard and the sorting campaign, we have seen a big drop in the production of municipal waste - this is meeting the main objective of the whole waste management
• therecording system has started to produce outputs - from these the waste production can be analysed in detail

The next step in waste management

Part of the system is the registration of municipal waste bins. We will therefore continue with the labelling and subsequent recording of bins. On the third Wednesday in July, 15 July 2020, we will be marking bins throughout the municipality. We are asking residents to have all the bins they use at home ready outside their house (even empty ones) on Wednesday 15 July 2020. The bins will then be marked with a QR code sticker by municipal staff. The tagging will take place from 6:00 am onwards. It is therefore recommended to prepare the bins the day before.

There is no limit to the number of bins in households in our municipality and we are not considering this measure. It does not matter whether you prepare one, two or three bins for marking. In this case, the system serves us as a check on the fullness of the bins, the number of bins in one collection and the control of the collection company. It is important to stress that the system does not affect the number of bins per household. If it happens that one of the bins is not marked, please contact the municipality on 571 442 090.

There is no change in the outcome for households. Only the collection company will have to register the bins with a reader during collection. We have already tried and tested this registration during the sack collections, so it should not cause any problems. During the month of July we will be working to ensure that all bins are marked. From August onwards, bins that are not labelled with a QR code will not be collected!

We have already made great progress in this area. Let's get moving again!
