Waste system
Article title
This year we have joined the project Municipality without waste, which is sponsored by the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic.
Waste sorting is already a standard in our municipality, but we would like to promote separation even more and sort more reusable waste. We are also driven by the fact that in a very short period of time the Waste Act will be changed and the calculation of the municipal waste charge will be fixed, landfill fees will rise sharply and we want to prepare for this situation. That is why we have prepared additional opportunities for you to sort directly at home and there will be more waste that you will be able to take to the collection yard. We are also focusing on the registration of collection bins so that we can more accurately assess the cost of waste collection. During the year we will run an incentive campaign and launch the whole waste collection and registration project.
I would like to appeal to all those who export biological waste to forests or stream banks not to do so. As an example, I give the example of the black dump above the pond in Červeny, which we currently have to deal with by remediating it.
Despite the fact that there is a collection yard in Červený, where it is possible to take this waste for free, many people drive past the open yard and spread more than just grass over the pond. I really appeal to all those who do so to take advantage of the opportunity to drop off this waste at the yard for free.

Our municipality will soon be launching a smart waste accounting system called ECONIT. This is in response not only to the growing need to increase waste sorting rates, but especially to the fact that we still have a large amount of expensive municipal waste in our community. The municipality expects more waste to be separated and thus lower municipal charges for citizens.
A new feature in our municipality from September 2019 will be the innovative waste sorting system ECONIT, which will monitor our waste. However, citizens need not worry about the monitoring itself, as its aim will not be to find out who is throwing away what in the waste, but to map the separated waste components and thus reduce the amount of mixed waste going to landfill. In practice, this will mean that from now on households will be able to sort their waste into bags, mark it with electronic codes, and the system will be monitored throughout the year. In view of the changing legislation and the forthcoming increase in the price of waste management and the ban on landfill, we are looking for ways to avoid increasing charges and we would like to provide financial incentives for those citizens who take part in the sorting system next year.
At the same time, all municipal waste containers will be marked with an electronic code and the collection company will read the containers during collection. This will show how many bins are actually being collected in a single collection and whether the number of bins is decreasing with the introduction of the new system. The whole system is voluntary. Anyone who wants to participate simply joins in, picks up their bags at the municipal office and can sort. Those who don't want to can continue to use our collection points.
What is ECONIT?
A simple, smart record of household waste that can reward those households who choose to sort their waste honestly with a reduction in their annual municipal waste collection fee the following year. Such systems are already operating successfully in several municipalities in the Czech Republic, and they are achieving significant savings on waste. "Thanks to this system, which we have been using since 2009, we are in the black by several thousand euros in overall waste management," said the mayor of Trojanovice, which is one of the good examples. Our municipality does not want to be idle, so it joins these innovative municipalities.
How will everything work in practice?
Citizens will sort their waste as they are used to do nowadays, but not in plastic bags from the supermarket, but in special bags that they will receive free of charge from the municipality. They will also receive stickers with QR codes at the municipality, which they will stick directly onto the bags filled with the sorted waste. The codes will contain information on the type of waste sorted, the serial number and the household identification. The filled and labelled bags will be collected by a municipal collection truck on each street once a fortnight. The technical services worker will load each bag into the system and register it.
PET bottles, plastics, paper, Tetrapak and paperboard will be sorted into these bags.
