Our municipality has helped the environment by recycling electrical appliances

Certificate to the municipality of Ratiboř

Last year, citizens handed in 6 096.07 kilograms of old appliances for recycling. The efforts of Ratibor residents to recycle old and unused electrical appliances have been paying off for several years. Our municipality has received a certificate testifying to the benefits of sorting and recycling electrical equipment. Thanks to ASEKOL's environmental billing, we can now calculate exactly how much electricity, oil, coal, primary raw materials or water we have saved the Earth's ecosystem by recycling our end-of-life Elektra. We also know by how much we have reduced the production of greenhouse gases CO2 or hazardous waste. The information is based on studies by ASEKOL, a non-profit company that has long worked with the municipality to recycle sorted electrical equipment.

ASEKOL's Environmental Accounting Certificate shows that the citizens of our municipality discarded 6,096.07 kilograms of electricity last year. By subsequently handing it over for recycling, we saved 78.19 MWh of electricity, 4,408.54 litres of oil, 347.40 m3 of water and 2.92 tonnes of primary raw materials. In addition, we reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 16.21 tonnes of CO2 equivalent and the production of hazardous waste by 72.58 tonnes.

The result of the study clearly demonstrated that the take-back of electrical equipment, even the smallest ones, has a significant positive impact on the environment. When we consider that recycling a typical 100 TV sets saves up to 4 years of household electricity consumption, or saves approximately 400 litres of oil needed for up to seven trips to Croatia, these are impressive figures. The positive news for computer users is also that handing in 10 end-of-life monitors will save the energy needed to run a laptop for just under 5 years. All those who make such a major contribution to environmental protection by sorting deserve a huge thank you.

Currently, the Czechs have more than 16,000 collection points available through ASEKOL's collection network. This is five times more than, for example, in environmentally advanced Austria. There is already a collection yard in every medium-sized municipality. At the same time, the streets and separation sites are supplemented with red containers for small electrical items. Anyone who is interested in sorting out end-of-life electrical goods can find the nearest collection point atwww.sberne-dvory.cz orwww.cervenekontejnery.cz.

The LCA study assesses the take-back system for ELVs. It evaluates their collection, transport and processing until the final recycling of each fraction of discarded appliances into a new product. For each fraction, the environmental impacts have been quantified. The results of the study are presented in terms of energy consumption, raw materials, air and water emissions and waste production. The final balance was clearly positive for the take-back of electrical equipment in all aspects.

Thank you!
