ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Stupka Quartet
The history of the quartet began in 1981, and its two founding members - the primary violinist Vladimír Žůrek and the violist Jiří Kobza - are still playing today. For the last twenty years the ensemble has included members of the Moravian Philharmonic Martina Fischerová and David Kostrhon. Since 2013, Václav David, a member of the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra, has also appeared at the viola console. The quartet has performed 450 concerts, some of which have taken place in places where history (not only musical history) was written. In 2012, they gave a concert at the famous Carolinas in Prague, where 4 hundred people came. The project Confrontation - Czech Chamber Music in the Changes of Time from 2014 brought the quartet the Olomouc Region Prize for exceptional achievement in the field of music. In their performance, the audience heard classical world repertoire: Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Schubert and others. Sluka, Hanuš, Zamečník, Vičar, Juřica, Vrbík, Juřica, Zamečník, Vičar, Vrbík.... The staging of a string quartet by Olomouc native Egon Kornauth for foreign tours (Germany, Austria) was exceptional.
The Stupka Quartet has taken part in important chamber music festivals in the Czech Republic and abroad (Brandýs Music Festival - concert in tribute to the Czech Quartet, Ditters Festival in Javorník, Camerata nova in Náchod, Czech-Saxon Festival, etc.). The ensemble has made a number of radio recordings, recorded 3 CDs (Green to Contemporary Chamber Music in 2011, Musical Bridge Olomouc - Vienna in 2015 and an album of compositions by Stanislav Vrbík in 2018). There is also a DVD from 2013 called Chronicle of the Stupek Quartet (Youtube). In 2018, the project Tribute to Franz Schubert in Jesenick was realized and a series of concerts to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Czechoslovakia was held.
