Ratiboř

Sometimes a single idea is enough to create something that lasts for many years. This is exactly how our solidarity project "Sit by the common fire", supported by the European Solidarity Corps, was created. Our goal was not only to build a covered fireplace. We wanted to create a place where people would meet, share common experiences, learn from each other and build relationships across generations. Today, as we look back on the past year, we can happily say that this idea has begun to turn into reality. 

The first months belonged mainly to the construction itself. Members of the volunteer group Plamínci , together with friends, families and volunteers, dug the foundations, concreted, built the structure and gradually gave shape to a place that was supposed to serve the entire community. Every beam, nail and hour of work was the result of joint effort and willingness to put a hand to work. From the very beginning, the project showed that solidarity is not just a word, but above all a willingness to create something together. 

The ceremonial opening of the fireplace took place on November 5 with the participation of citizens, children from the Kosáček ensemble and the mayor of the village of Ratiboř. With the symbolic cutting of the ribbon and lighting the first fire, a new stage began – the fireplace became a place that is open to everyone. 

Since its opening, a number of events for children and the public have taken place here – pre-Christmas punch cooking, environmental and bushcraft programs, welcoming spring and a musical-educational evening. We were also very happy to work with schools, a kindergarten, the Takoda organization and the Magnolia daycare center, thanks to which we managed to connect children, adults and seniors. 

The project showed us that solidarity does not consist only in great deeds, but above all in the willingness to cooperate, help each other and create a space where people feel good. Within just one year, the fireplace became a space for meetings, education and moments spent together. We believe that it will serve the entire community for many years to come. 

Finally, we would like to thank everyone who participated in the project – volunteers, the municipality of Ratiboř, schools, cooperating organizations and everyone who supported us throughout the year. A big thank you also goes to the European Solidarity Corps, thanks to whose support we were able to successfully implement the project. We thank everyone who became part of this common story.
