Bushcraft at the YMCA Campground

Article title

Bushcraft means the art of coping in nature...

In recent days, a bushcraft event for children from the Jablůnka Elementary School after-school club took place at the YMCA campsite. Bushcraft means the art of coping in nature, so the program for the young participants focused mainly on fire-making, but also on the basics of health science.

The basic skill is, of course, fire-making. The children tried to make a fire using flint, learned how to properly prepare a fire pit, what materials are best for kindling, and why it is absolutely essential to think about safety. Many of them successfully managed to strike their own flame for the first time, which was accompanied by visible joy and pride.

Health education, which is essential in nature, was also covered. The children first learned about the contents of a properly equipped first aid kit and found out what is unnecessary baggage and what, on the contrary, is essential for dealing with emergency situations. They then tried their hand at treating minor injuries, such as abrasions and small cuts, which are simply part of being outdoors. They also practiced calling for help, what exactly to say to the operator on the phone, and how to correctly describe their location, wherever they are.

A big thank you goes to the group that joined us and enthusiastically participated in the program. Thanks to their energy and eagerness to try new things, the whole event had the right atmosphere.

We look forward to our next adventure together around our campfire!
