Last week, children from the after-school club at Ratiboř Elementary School took part in the Birds in Winter program, which taught them how we can help birds in our area during the winter months…
The children played lots of activities and games, thanks to which they learned what birds live in our country, how to distinguish between them, what to feed them, why winter feeding is important, and how to treat nature with respect.
But the program wasn't just about nature – it also became a beautiful example of solidarity and intergenerational connection.
The January afternoon followed on from a November event during which clients from the day care center in Ratiboř made bird feeders. These have now found their place around the school, where the children from the after-school club hung them up. We also introduced the children to an annual event called Bird Hour. This is a winter bird count that invites people to perceive the surrounding nature and offers an opportunity to get to know its inhabitants through their own observations.
By hanging up the bird feeders, the children created wonderful conditions for watching and counting birds.
Our campfire at the YMCA campsite is also a great place for bird watching. The crackling fire, the warmth it offers, and the winter atmosphere create the ideal conditions for you to pause for a moment and listen to the singing of the local bird kingdom.
We would like to thank the after-school club and the day care center in Ratiboř, and we are already looking forward to future events.
