Municipal apartments

Article title

... and how they are allocated

First of all, it must be said that the municipality owns only a small number of apartments and their turnover is very long-term.

Municipal flats are allocated on the basis of a waiting list, to which applicants who express an interest and submit an application to the municipal office are placed. The applicant must meet two essential conditions, namely that he/she is a permanent resident of the municipality of Ratiboř and does not own any real estate. If an apartment becomes available, the applicant who is at the top of the waiting list is contacted. At the same time, the category of the apartment is assessed. This means that a 1-bedroom apartment is offered to an individual. Larger 2+1 or 3+1 flats are then offered to applicants who have multiple family members.

To illustrate, I will give one example. Recently, an apartment 1 + kk has become available in the house No. 337 (near the Kašpars). This type of flat is intended for one person. The applicants were contacted on a first-come, first-served basis. Three refused the apartment, so they were moved to the end of the waiting list. Only the fourth applicant, after being approached, agreed to rent the apartment and accepted. This was Mrs Eva Mrlinová. I would like to emphasise here that Mrs Mrlinová had a duly submitted application, which was approved by the municipal council, and she was subsequently approached when her turn came. She did not outbid anyone and was not given priority. There are also several families on the waiting list who are often in a difficult life situation and are in very urgent need of an apartment. However, these families may be approached if an apartment from the category suitable for large families becomes available.

Sometimes we are asked if a specific apartment will be vacated. The local authority cannot work with such information. The vacancy can only be negotiated if the tenant has served notice.
